Shepherds Huts

I build Shepherds Huts and French Roulottes on standard road-worth single and double axle modern trailers. It admittedly detracts from the original designs but on the other hand allows far more mobility. Once positioned, clients often surround the base with straw bales or picket fences to give a more homely feel to the hut - and then the wheels disappear from view.

Here's a 3.6 x 2.4 x 2.4 Shepherd's Hut on a 1600 kg axle with 14 inch wheels licensed for 750 kg GVM. Excuse the video quality.

Combinations of Victorian Corrugated roofing and tongue and groove siding are both elegant and durable. Shepherd Hut sizes vary from 3.6 to 8 meters in length with a 2.45 meter width.

The French Roulotte is generally longer, heavier and a bigger project, especially when adding a mollycroft style roof and to a large extent resembles an old train carriage. Many Roulottes have a balcony on one end and the Shepherds Hut below has copied this French tradition.

The other pictures show a variety of Shepherds Huts and their interiors and some exterior views of Roulottes
